A Nash Equilibrium is a special resting point in a game. It's named after mathematician John Nash, who figured out that in almost any game — from chess to choosing a restaurant — there's a point where every player has picked the strategy that's best for them, given what everyone else picked. Once everyone reaches that point, nobody wants to change their move by themselves, because doing so wouldn't help them at all.
Think of two food trucks parked on opposite ends of a park. If one truck moves closer to the crowd, it gets more customers — until the other truck moves too, and they end up parked right next to each other in the middle. Once they're both in the middle, neither wants to move again, because moving away would just lose them customers. That middle spot is the Nash Equilibrium.
The tricky part is that a Nash Equilibrium isn't always the "best" outcome overall — it's just the stable one. Sometimes everyone would be happier if they all cooperated differently, but no single person can safely be the first to switch.
